CAREER PROFILE
Steve
Gallison has been pursuing his Occupassion™ for the
better part
of his working career. Starting out in the rehabilitation field as a
job analyst, career counselor, program developer and program
director, Steve is on a mission to help those in need of employment.
He believes everyone is valuable, employable and can contribute to
society though their work. He has been teaching, coaching and
counseling about Job Acquisition Strategies since the late
70’s.
Steve developed
three vocational training programs that operated as businesses and
was awarded a “Certificate of Distinction” from the
U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services for placing more than 250
developmentally disabled people into competitive federal jobs in a
three year period.
He
designed, developed and managed the nation’s first
coordinated
horticultural employment and training program in six strategic cities
across the U.S. which trained and placed more than four thousand
marginalized people in jobs in horticulture and related industries.
He developed a federally grant funded training program and trained
over 185 tissue culture lab technicians to work in commercial tissue
culture labs.
Steve has provided outplacement
consulting and training services to the Federal Office of Personnel
Management, Disney, Proctor and Gamble, Alcoa, National Security
Agency, National Institute of Health, the Central Intelligence
Agency, Westinghouse, U.S. Department of State, General Electric,
General Motors, and U.S. Airways, to name a few. As a Rapid Response
Coordinator he managed more than 250 substantial layoffs and plant
closings effecting more than 45,000 workers. He is proud to have
assisted with outplacement services to the staff of cabinet
member’s
staff as presidential administrations leave office, as well as
helping Congressional support staff of those members of Congress who
have lost elections or selected retirement.
Currently Steve directs the
Professional Outplacement Assistance Center (POAC) which he conceived
and championed. The center has served more than 135,000 individuals
by providing outplacement services. POAC is the only program of its
type in the U.S. that serves professional, executive, technical,
managerial and scientific workers with free outplacement services.
The program has been singled out by the U.S. Department of Labor as a
“Best Practices” model and in December of 2008 as
an “Innovative
Program.”

White House award for
conceiving and co-directing a showcase of abilities of people with
disabilities on the Capital Mall. The program called
“Inspire’85” drew over 185,000 visitors
in four days. Raised more than $250,000 dollars to help underwrite the
program.

Bicentennial Commission and chaired the Living Legacy Committee
Consulted in the establishment of
the Dole Foundation
Conceived and
“pitched” the concept of a commercial three hour
television event called “Surviving the Pink Slip”
that created interest and provided services to unemployed workers in
the Baltimore region.
Steve is also the
creator of the Résumé Doctor who attends many of
the region’s job fairs and provides a team of
Résumé Doctors (The Résumé
Resuscitation Team) to diagnose résumés, create
treatment plans and make referrals to résumé
critical care facilities throughout the State of Maryland.
Provides Curriculum
Vitae training and career management advice to Post Docs at the
National Cancer institute and the National Institute of Health
Although he has
yet to publish
that definitive book on outplacement, he has designed and written
training manuals to enhance the professional career counseling skills
of state and county employees who provide services to those using the
public service programs.

Steve volunteers
his time with
Matt’s Place - Community Connection Center where he provides
career
advice to various members of the community. Drop by and

him conducting a group program on the use of Internet-based social
networking for job leads or working one on one to help someone gain
the confidence to move forward in their job acquisition strategy.
In his leisure
time he spends it
with his wife, Donna a “Very” Special Education
teacher, his dog,
a 100 pound Boxer named Buddy, at an Abredeen IronBirds baseball game
or just hanging out cultivating and expanding his orchid collection.
