Get ready to be an outplacement specialist, résumé writer, trainer and coach etc. as the current system is being challenged by the fact that those like myself have lost staff and are working hard to satisfy the demand. Adding lots of staff is probably not going to happen as far as training staff however contractual/temporary staff to help with the admin work is realistic. For example my staff of three total and I have provided two day outplacement services to over 200 customers since March 2nd and our books are full until May 1st. This is unprecedented demand. I have picked up a contractual worker and we are planning to hire another full time secretary to help with the demand on the administrative back side of the outplacement services. Some States are going to outsource the additional activities. Many States have the intention not to hire other workers but to refine systems and streamline their operations with tech options.
I sort of wished I could have met with everyone at the CMA conference in San Antonio and it was held before all this started, but Mr. Obama didn’t consult with me. But there is still time to create the connections and network to see how your State and local jurisdictions intend to actuate the hiring mechanisms with their allocations. I would urge you all to come to Texas late in April and discuss how this - as one DOL consultant put it - “The Last Gold Mine of My Career” can help Americans get back to work.
