What bridges could/should be made between CMA and Executive Recruitment Industry?

Assuming we want to grown, does CMA provide incentive to recruit members?

Do members have access to the roster? What are the parameters for contacting members?

What are other organizations (like AARP) that we can ally with?

Who is Liz and where is she from?

Can we please update the Secret Room?

What other benefits can members receive?
– like access to insurance
disability; professional insurance; general liability insurance for speaking and consulting with companies

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to anyone, everyone who attended our session, Mind the Gap: Connecting the Generations. It was truly an honor to get to present before you and we so appreciated your participation. The information we got back from program participants was wonderful; you provided us with 75+ ideas, strategies, and best practices that you use to connect with a multi-generational population.  Over the coming days, we will be sharing that feedback with you. Until then, thank you for your contributions to our presentation. If you didn’t have a chance to attend, feel free to share, write, post, pass along the feedback as you deem appropriate when it becomes available.  Thanks again from the three of us, Sarah, Karen, and Billie.

Here are 5 things that were new to me from John Suarez’s entertaining presentation:

1. Resume writers should be verb-aholics.
2. Despite all we know about how technology is affecting resume delivery, write for the human eye first.
3. Undergo job-hunting yourself to test your own resume.
4. For each client, ask yourself, what is this person’s value proposition, and what proof supports it? (here, Deb Dib added that constantly keeping the value proposition in mind helps you edit out material that doesn’t support the proposition).
5. Employ the 5-5-2 rule: No more than 5 lines of text, no more than 5 bullet points, and no more than 2 pages.

The first 4 of these items came from Richard Leider’s phenomenal keynote presentation; the last one came from Caitlin Williams’ session on working with “third-quarter” clients:

1. A million people a day worldwide turn 65.
2. Every 8 seconds, someone turns 50.
3. Retirement has tanked as Baby Boomers refuse to grow old and quit working.
4. 70 percent of aging is optional; the rest is genetic.
5. A great beginning to assisting Boomers with career management is to listen as they tell their stories.

In his highly entertaining and informative presentation Friday morning, John Suarez kicked off by marvelling at all the great stories folks have about how they got into their career practices – and then he told his story of the moment he realized his journalism career wasn’t right for him and how he then got into resume writing.

John pointed out that virtually no one has a childhood dream of being a resume writer or other  career practitioner, so the stories of how we got into it are almost always fascinating.
