Trust me, it works. For the first time in my life I took a strong stance against an employer when my role within the company changed against my will. I'd joined the company to be involved in a very specific and thriving area or marketing but after 8 months in the job I was told i would now be working in the sales department. My performance in my original role had been excellent but the boss felt my skills could be better deployed elsewhere. I made my feelings very clear and started looking for a job straightaway, and i'm pleased to say i had no shortage of offers. I'm in a fantastic job now on a much better salary, and to top it off the company i left have asked me to go back because someone else in the same department has left. No thanks, you had your chance.
