QUOTES for the Week:

- When the outcome of a meeting is to have another meeting, it has been a lousy meeting. ~Herbert Clark Hoover

- Any meeting worth holding is worth planning. ~Unknown

QUESTIONS for the Week:

In the past two weeks, how many hours have you spent in meetings? How effective have they been?

QUICK TIPS for the Week:

- Before scheduling or saying yes to a meeting:

- Determine if a meeting is necessary or if the information could be handled another way.

- Identify the meeting’s purpose and your role in it.

- Say NO to meetings that waste your time, or at least find a way to improve them.

- Prepare for each and every meeting.

If you lead meetings:

- Find ways to increase participation and commitment.

- Establish ground rules and calmly handle disruptive behaviors.

- Keep the agenda flowing. The average adult attention span is 20 minutes.

- Regularly evaluate meetings and make improvements as needed.

CHALLENGE for the Week:

- Give each meeting you attend an “effectiveness grade” (A, B, C, D, and F).

- Identify what could have been done to achieve a higher grade – by you, other participants and the leader.

- Where appropriate, share insights and suggestions for improvement.

Amy Zastrow, The KICK BUTT Business MentorSM
Success Architects - Business Coaching and Consulting
651-439-8605 | amy@SuccessArchitects.com | amy@KickButtToday.com

I'm quoting Dr. Michael Kannisto, BASF's head of staffing who sent me an interesting email this morning.

Apparently Old Spice had such a great online response to a series of commercials ("The Man Your Man Could Smell Like"...something I missed entirely) that they filmed and posted online individual replies to dozens of them with the very appealing actor in the commercial.

It made me think about creating video replies to individual visitors to a career site as part of an FAQ section or having the recruiter embed an automated yet customized video message to folks they were turning down, perhaps encouraging more selectivity or additional experience rather than a cold email.

World class ideas are a dime a dozen. The very best firms are separated from the very worst only by execution.
