From Green Career Central. Posted under Environment/Green & Hot Job Search Trends

Green Career Trends logo copy In order to prevent spikes in demand over night in energy usage from re-charging electric cars and plug-in hybrids, the Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Lab has created a device called the Smart Charger Controller.  The Controller will automatically choose the time when the price and demand for energy is the lowest, preventing utilities from having to build more power plants to meet the demand. Getting Interviews!

From Joan's Career & Leadership Blog. Posted under Interviewing & Networking

The economy is in the tank, but my clients are still getting interviews! I am so grateful. One of my clients is a finalist (one of two) that will be going in for the last round of interviews next week. Another client sent his resume to a potential employer and had a request for a phone interview within 2 days and a personal interview within one week. Why are these two getting interviews? They're not just sitting at the computer emailing resumes, they're connecting and re-connecting with their network. Another client has landed several interviews recently by just stopping in to businesses asking if they are hiring. She's faxed her resume to different businesses, whether or not she knew they had an opening. Today's economy requires being willing to step out of your comfort zone to land a new job.

How to Build your Web Presence Part 2: Google Profiles

From Blue Sky Resumes Blog. Posted under Internet Job Search & Job Search & Online Identity

In my last post in this series, I talked about how you can use VisualCV to put your resume online. Creating a VisualCV is an important step in establishing yourself online, but as I mentioned in that post, you also need to find ways to make sure you rank highly for your own name in Google. Because you can be sure that many potential clients, employers, strategic partners and employees will google your name before meeting with you. Continue Reading »

With stress a given in their worklives, CEOs rely on diverse remedies. Some run marathons. Some turn to food. Some clear their minds by doodling. According to a recent Forbes article:
“CEOs have three unique areas of stress that can exceed other people’s. Those are the pace of their work life, the pain of downsizing (in today’s economy) and social isolation.”
Daily critical decision-making challenges impacting their teams take a toll. And CEOs are on-call all day and accessible non-stop through their Blackberrys and cell phones. Continue Reading »

Will Next Employer Reimburse Tuition?

From The Career Doctor Blog. Posted under Career Planning & Compensation & Salary

Elsa writes: I recently completed my MBA program, which has been partially reimbursed by my current employer. Part of the reimbursement agreement is to stay with the company for 12 months following graduation. The current job I’m in is extremely limiting and stressful, and I’m not sure I can endure it for another 11 months. How likely is it that a new employer will cover any higher education expenses that may not be reimbursed if I leave my current employer? Thanks! Continue Reading »

U.S. News MBA Rankings

From EduPlan. Posted under College/Education

I confess I am not the biggest fan of the rankings. There is so much more to say about a business school program than the numbers it shows. Can you really express the way going through a top MBA program changes your life around by the “yield”? If a school goes up in the rankings, will this directly affect our MBA experience? How great will the impact of this rise in the rankings be in our career? Continue Reading »

For generations our families have passed on stories that teach us about our histories, cultures, values, and life-lessons.
